When I think of the women's UEFA Champions League, I think of these players. They are currently playing in this season's competition, have a long and strong history in this trophy battle, and are synonymous with the award. It is no surprise these players have all had success while at Lyon. Who are the most successful clubs in the competition's history? Winning eight times, including five consecutive titles from 2016 to 2020. They have also made the most final appearances (11), most semi-finals (14), and quarter-finals (16), joint with Arsenal.
Lucy Bronze
Lucy Bronze, the most decorated female player in English football history, is highly successful in the Champions League. She has won the title five times, three times with Lyon and twice with Barcelona.
She has made a significant impact in European football competitions. She has the most Champions League trophies of any English player, man or woman. She won the titles with Lyon in 2018,2019, and 2020, and then in 2023 and 2024 with Barcelona.
While at Lyon, she was a part of a team widely considered the greatest in women's football history. She scored in the 2019 semi-final against Chelsea (her current club) to help Lyon reach the final. Named in the UEFA Women’s Team of the Year and Champions League Squad of the Season multiple times. Recognised for her defensive leadership, attacking overlaps, and consistency in high-pressure European matches.
Became the first English player to win the Champions League with two different clubs. The striker notably hit 15 Champions League goals in 2017/18 to beat the record of 14 for a single campaign, having also struck 13 when she was top scorer in OL's 2015/16 victory.
