The January transfer window for the WSL has only just opened, and all these signings have been made. Club is reinforcing across the field, bringing in stars and youth to its side in hopes of boosting it in the second half of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Swedish defender Hanna Wijk from BK Häcken in January 2026, pending international clearance and a work permit. The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract and will wear shirt number 22. Wijk described joining Spurs as a dream move, expressing excitement at playing in England and feeling her style as a full-back fits well with the team. Head coach Martin Ho praised her athleticism, versatility, and technical ability, highlighting her potential to strengthen the team across a broad range.

Wijk has enjoyed a rapid rise in her career, debuting for Häcken at 16 and helping the club win multiple titles, including two Damallsvenskan championships and the Swedish Cup, while also reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. She became a vice-captain, made 107 senior appearances, and earned her first senior cap for Sweden in 2024. Her move to Tottenham represents both recognition of her development and an opportunity to compete in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

Spurs continue to spend the money and make the moves, as they have reached an agreement with BK Hacken for Matilda Nilden. The 21-year-old Swedish youth international has agreed to a long-term contract.

Nilden said, "I'm so excited and thrilled to be here. I think this is the right step for me because the club wants to develop players, and I feel they have a clear plan for me.

Across her two seasons at BK Hacken, she made a total of 63 senior appearances in all competitions, including eight in the UEFA Champions League. She tasted silverware at the end of this campaign by lifting the Damallsvenskan for the first time in her career.

Martin Ho said, “Matilda is an exciting attacking player with the ability to operate as a winger on both sides. She plays with pace, bravery and intent, and has the qualities to impact games in the final third consistently.

“She is comfortable receiving in vast areas, attacking 1v1 situations and making decisive movements in behind. Matilda has significant potential, and we believe this environment will allow her attacking instincts, decision-making and end product to develop to an even higher level.

Manchester United have secured German forward Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich, with the 28-year-old signing a three-and-a-half-year contract and officially joining the club on January 1. Schuller, who scored over 100 goals in 82 international appearances and won multiple domestic titles with Bayern, cited Manchester United’s ambition and style of play as key factors in her move. She expressed excitement about contributing her experience to help the team succeed in England and the Champions League.

Schuller’s departure from Bayern was emotional, marked by heartfelt farewells to teammates, fans, and the club, highlighting the strong bonds she had formed over five-and-a-half years. Bayern’s director of women’s football, Bianca Rech, praised her contributions and wished her well, marking the end of a successful chapter in her career as she embarks on a new challenge in the Women’s Super League.

Manchester United have also signed Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal, keeping her at the club until June 2029, pending international clearance and registration. At 23, Lundkvist has already played for San Diego Waves, Atlético Madrid, Hammarby, and AIK, and has been capped 17 times for Sweden, starting every game at the 2025 Euros. She highlighted the club’s growth, history, and Champions League ambition as primary reasons for joining.

Lundkvist expressed excitement about integrating into the squad and contributing to the team’s success, praising the club culture and her conversations with head coach Marc Skinner. Her signing adds depth and experience to Manchester United’s defence as the club looks to compete on multiple fronts this season.

Bottom of the WSL, Liverpool are hoping the January transfer window will boost their chances of getting their first league win after a disastrous start to the 2025/26 season. They have agreed to the transfer of Alice Bergstrom from BK Hacken, subject to international clearance.

She said: “I’m really excited. I’ve been waiting a long time, so it’s nice to be here.

“I’m really excited to get started, and it’s going to be a good year.”

She is known for her ability to operate anywhere on the right wing, having helped the club win the 2025 Damallsvenskan title.

She played in 25 of their 26 league matches throughout the season, scoring three goals and providing eight assists as Hacken became top-flight champions for the second time in their history.
