The award is based on several criteria, such as quality of play, titles won, memorable victories, results exceeding expectations, respect, and fair play.
When I see exceeding expectations, Arsenal and Chelsea are the only clubs that meet that requirement.
Arsenal won the Champions League for the first time since 2007, beating Barcelona, and Chelsea won the domestic treble and were unbeaten in domestic football, so you have to meet all the requirements that fit.
whereas Barcelona winning the domestic treble is an expectation, no exception in their league, which they dominate. It is like a one-club league, so I very much doubt they will win.
The same goes for Lyonnes and Orlando Pride. They have not done anything significant or epic or defined all odds to get to where they were in the 2024/25 season.
The trophies are awarded by an international jury of specialised journalists, the men's Ballon d'Or jury for the male club and the women's Ballon d'Or jury for the female club.
Each juror selects one club from a list of nominees established by the editorial staff of France Football, members of the editorial staff of L'Équipe, the best juror from the previous edition and UEFA ambassadors Luís Figo for the male club and Nadine Kessler for the female club.
The trophy is awarded to the club most frequently mentioned.
In case of a tie, the clubs are separated by the number of players nominated in the Ballon d'Or lists. The editor-in-chief of France Football decides any dispute as the organiser.
The award has appeared in the last two years, both of which Barcelona Femeni won.
In 2021, Chelsea won the Club of the Year trophy at the Ballon d’Or. The Blues handed the award after the achievements of both the men’s and women’s teams, as at the time, there was not a women’s team-centric award.
Arsenal
They lifted the Women's Champions League trophy, ending an 18-year wait for a second European title when they beat Barcelona 1-0 with a goal from Stina Blackstenius to give them the win. Their strong performance contributed to seven players earning nominations for the Ballon d’Or Féminin, which underscores their dominance across the continent. Under coach Renée Slegers, they overcame early-season turmoil—turning defeats into wins and powering past Real Madrid and Lyon in sensational comeback performances.
FC Barcelona
They won the domestic treble what is expected of them and also it was expected they reached the final of the Champions League but they lost. But they seems to be a biased nature towards this Spanish side in this award and the individual Ballon d’Or award too. They lifted the Liga F, Copa de la Reina, and Supercopa de España, marking their second straight domestic treble. Recorded a dominant 6–1 quarter-final win over Wolfsburg, reaching the semis with a 10–2 aggregate.Clinched their sixth consecutive Liga F title, totalling 10 titles overall. Barca held the longest winning and unbeaten run in the league, underscoring consistent excellence
Chelsea
Chelsea did something unprecedented and went unbeaten in the WSL, they also won the domestic treble again that’s how dominant they are. The domestic treble includes the FA Cup, League cup and the WSL in all those competition they did not loose over all competitions last season they lost only two games. Record-Breaking: Finished with a record 60 points, highest-ever xG, and exceptional defensive stats—with Hannah Hampton leading the league in clean sheets. They made WSL history by becoming the first team ever to go unbeaten in a full 22-game season.
OL Lyonnes
Like Barcelona this is a side expected to dominate their league and Europe and they won the League again for the fourth time consecutively. Lyon successfully defended their title, winning the 2024–25 Première Ligue with an 18th championship. Lyon clinched the French top-flight title once again, becoming back-to-back champions. They dominated with a remarkable 20 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, and an outstanding goal difference of +85, scoring 92 goals and conceding just 7. They also held the longest winning (14 matches) and unbeaten streaks (22 matches) across the league.
Orlando Pride
They won their first ever trophy in October of 2024 when they won the NWSL Shield with three games to spare when they beat Washington Spirit 2-0. They also won the championship. Set league records for most points (60), wins (18), and clean sheets (13). Additionally, they remained unbeaten at home. Honored with the 2024 Golden Brick Award of Excellence for their on- and off-field contributions, including a trophy parade.
