There seems to be a big issue with forwards at Chelsea on both sides, with Cole Palmer and Liam Delap out of the men’s side, Sam Kerr (though she finally returned), Lauren James, and now Mayra Ramirez.
In a preseason friendly against AC Milan at Kingsmeadow, she suffered a non-contact injury in the 34th minute and had to be replaced.
At the end of the match, the club celebrated its players' international successes this summer, including the Chelsea striker reaching the Women’s Copa America final with Colombia.
When she came out to collect her flowers, she was unformately hobbling and looking like she was in a lot of pain and discomfort.
Since then, the club announced that she sustained a hamstring injury and has required surgery to fix it.
She will now be participating in rehab with the medical team's support and will be sidelined for a period of time, some suggesting the rest of the year.
This leaves Chelsea in a dangerous position as they face Manchester City in the WSL opener. Their only traditional forwards who’re fit are Aggie Beever-Jones and Catarina Marcrio. If they sign Alyssa Thompson, the logistics would not align for her to play in the first game.
City are dangerous and want revenge from last seasons defeats against Chelsea.
I would suggest Chelsea put the likes of Sandy Baltimore in more a forward role something she excelled at in the FA Cup final against Manchester United where she scored two goals under the Wembley Arch.
Though it has been rumoured and suggested that Sam Kerr could make an appearance at Stamford Bridge however I feel this is unlikely.
Chelsea women now have a crisis on their hands similar to what they had in January and February of 2024 where they do not have many traditional forwards but they had seventeen goalscorers last year best being Aggie Beever-Jones, Guro Reiten (but she does penalties) and Catarina Macario so they have the players to score these goals.
