Mary Fowler Balances ACL Recovery With Paris Fashion Week Debut

Mary Fowler tore her ACL during Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at the end of the season.

Return time for this type of injury is anywhere from six months to a year, but Fowler is back on the pitch just four months after surgery.

She is seen jogging down the football field and skipping on social media.

Fowler is back running and doing drills with her club team in Manchester, but is realistic about a potential return at the Asian Cup. “Making it back in time to be considered for the Asian Cup squad is a big motivator for me," she told News Corp. "But, as with any long-term injury, it’s best not to get too ahead of yourself."

Since she is away from the pitch, she has turned to other career paths to keep her busy throughout her recovery, including modelling.

“Ever since I was young, I’ve loved experimenting with different looks – both with clothing and makeup," she said. "For me, beauty has always been about expressing who I am, both on and off the field.

"Walking in Le Défilé is a chance to show that strength, confidence, and authenticity are beautiful in every form. I want every young woman watching, especially in Australia, to know that you don’t have to fit a mould to be worthy, and hope to inspire others to celebrate their individuality and wear their confidence with pride."

She became a L’Oreal Paris Brand Ambassador in Australia and New Zealand last year, the first female athlete to do so, and has since become the face of several campaigns. She will take on Paris Fashion Week this September.

The September fashion shows are the most highly anticipated event in the fashion calendar.

The event will occur at the Hotel de Ville de Paris on September 29.

The Manchester City star's announcement of her runway debut comes after the club lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the opener of the WSL.

Fowler will appear in the Paris Fashion Week show alongside A-listers Kendall Jenner, Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, and Gillian Anderson.

The Tillies star, who hopes to return to the Asian Cup in March 2026 for the Matilda, will appear on the Paris Fashion Week show alongside A-listers Kendall Jenner, Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, and Gillian Anderson.

She also told News Corp: "I’m incredibly proud to represent women in sport, and to get an opportunity to encourage young girls to dream big because they don’t have to be just one thing. I am a little nervous, but I’m not pressuring myself to be perfect out there because walking in Le Defile is a chance to show that showing up as yourself will always be beautiful."

Fowler said she was 'honoured' to be the first footballer to walk in the show, but also admitted it was "outside her comfort zone."

"This will be my first time walking a runway, and while it's a little outside of my comfort zone, the opportunity to walk alongside extraordinary women in a celebration of women's empowerment, inclusion, and sisterhood is truly inspiring," she said.

She said she had always been into "experimenting" with clothes and make-up, but was keen to celebrate diversity.

"I want every young woman watching, especially in Australia, to know that you don't have to fit a mould to be worthy and hope to inspire others to celebrate their individuality and wear their confidence with pride," Fowler said.
