For the first time ever Manchester United are into the main Champions league after making it through three rounds of qualifiers.

They overturned a 1-0 deficit to come back with a 3-0 home victory and a hat trick for Elisabeth Terland.

In the first leg the club lost boots and shin pads ahead of kick off and had to go buy some new ones.

The home side were not tested at Leigh Sports Village especially after a quick first-half double for Terland.

It is a historic and significant victory for United, who have come through opponents PSV, Hammarby and Brann in qualifying to book their place.

The biggest issue United will face is the schedule with balancing champions league and also football in England and unlike Chelsea and Arsenal they do not have the squad depth or the financial resources to expand their squad.

But ultimately unlike the men’s side they have European football this season they have.

The hat trick scorer played for Brann between 2021 and 2022.

The attendance was 2,972 at Leigh sports village in the first leg out in Norway it was a new women’s football attendance record of 16,019 when the home side won 1-0.

United dominated possession before the opening goal and were demonstrating impeccable levels of control as they boxed Brann into a corner they could not escape.

The home side have the fans to life them as they rarely gave their opinion etc time to breathe and work the ball into the box.

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner to MUTV:

"Over both legs, we thoroughly deserved it. We were the better team, so congratulations to my players - they are history makers, and that is incredible. That's what dreams are: taking our fans on a proper European tour. Now it's not just about being there, it's about giving our very best.

"This team looked like they wanted to write history. An early goal was always going to be key, and to get two in under 15 minutes set the standard. We're an incredible team at home and it's difficult for anyone to play against us. The quality of the goals was excellent, and the whole team pulled together.

Now, of course, I'll enjoy tonight, but we've already started preparing for Arsenal. The players will have a day off tomorrow, but the staff will be working hard. It's part of the reason I've got the flu at the minute! Arsenal come into the weekend fresh, and it's a big game, but we'll have a plan to try and win it. That's what we're here to do.

"It's a big challenge and we'll make sure we rise to it."

Goalscorer Elisabeth Terland speaking on Man Utd's social media:

"I think what stands out for me today is the performance from the team. We went out and totally dominated the game, which is exactly what we wanted to do. I love playing for this team - and when people pass me the ball like they did today, it's an easy job as a striker.

"I just love my team-mates. We knew we wanted to play more WCL games this season, and we made history today. I'm proud of the group and what we've done so far - and now we're here to really compete."
