From model to Author, Mary Fowler has signed a new contract with Manchester City until 2027.
She is the only City player to hit double figures for both goals and assists last season and was included in the PFA WSL Team of the Year.
After joining the city in June 2022 from Montpellier, she has made 87 appearances. She has scored 21 goals and provided 22 assists.
Matilda said on her new contract: “City has felt like home for quite a while now, so to continue this journey, I’m really proud. I’ve become much more comfortable in this environment and play better when I feel that way. I love working with the girls here and appreciate that balance.”
City Women’s director of football Therese Sjögran added: “Mary’s a significant figure for us on and off the pitch. She’s a tremendous talent, but how she’s improved each year since joining City speaks volumes about her attitude and hard work.”
In April 2025, she sustained an ACL injury during an FA Cup semi-final game against Manchester United.
She has said her time away from the pitch has made her both grateful for the career she’s enjoyed and excited to see what more she can achieve.
As of September 2025, the Australian international has started jogging, doing drills, skipping, and running as part of her rehab. She is back ‘on the pitch’ in terms of light movement and field-based training, e.g., non-contact.
Matildas coach Joe Montemurro has said she’s on track and that her recovery looks good. They remain optimistic that she will return in time for the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup in March.
Since being away from the pitch, she has found other passions
Fowler said, “There’s still so much I want to achieve, and I’ll use this time to grow in every way I can. I’m committed to doing the work, staying positive and returning better than ever.”
In September 2025, she became the first female professional footballer to walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week.
She also announced her debut book, Bloom: Creating a Life I Love, which will be published next month.
Fowler described the project as a personal reflection, inspired by her love of journaling and a desire to create something she wishes she’d had as a teenager.
“I’ve always enjoyed writing. As someone who struggled to express myself, journaling was my outlet. Writing the book was easy – releasing it is harder, because people are actually going to read it. But I hope it can help others, as writing has helped me.”
