Arsenal Women face Corinthians on Sunday at Emirates Stadium in the Champions Cup final, with the trophy and significant prize money on the line.
The fixture brings together the European champions and the leading South American club side in a meeting that highlights the growing global reach of the women’s game.
Arsenal arrive in strong form, midway through their domestic season. They progressed to the final with a comprehensive 6–0 victory over AS FAR, keeping a clean sheet and demonstrating their attacking depth.
Five different players scored in the semi-final, including Mariona Caldentey, Olivia Smith and Frida Maanum, while Alessia Russo became the first player to score twice at these finals. The match will be played on home soil, giving Arsenal the advantage of familiar surroundings.
The London side has further been boosted by the return of Chloe Kelly, who made her comeback from a knee injury during the international break in early December. Her availability adds another attacking option and provides additional experience in high-pressure matches.
Corinthians reached the final despite being out of season, overcoming Gotham FC in the semi-final. The Brazilian champions relied on their organisation and composure, with captain Gabi Zanotti scoring the winning goal late in the match.
With eight minutes remaining, Zanotti struck from the edge of the box to secure the result, underlining Corinthians’ ability to remain effective despite limited possession.
The final represents a contest between South American and European footballing cultures, with £1.7 million in prize money at stake. Arsenal enter the match as favourites, but Corinthians have already shown they are capable of upsetting teams from established leagues.
Arsenal face selection decisions across their forward line, with Olivia Smith and Beth Mead competing for a starting role, while Stina Blackstenius and Alessia Russo are both in goalscoring form.
Corinthians may choose to name the same starting XI that defeated Gotham FC, although tactical adjustments remain a possibility.
With contrasting styles and clear strengths on both sides, the Champions Cup final is expected to be a close contest.
