If you can't beat them, buy them.

The history of Chelsea and Barcelona is ridden with Chelsea defeats and Barcelona having the ref as a 12th member. So this season, they have decided to buy their players. This is the second player in this transfer market they have bought a Barca player. This deal was impeccable work from the scouts to buy Lucy Bronze on a free transfer, though in her later years as a player, she has experience winning the Champions League, something that has alluded to this Chelsea women's side. She has a strong winning mantlity and once something has been won she moves onto the next trophy.  She has no language barrier and has played in the WSL for many years, making the transition small and efficient. She has impeccable leadership skills and a solid international relationship with Carter, Bright and Charles on the defensive line. She has three wsl titles and five Champions League trophies and euros under her belt, including multiple individual honours, and has accumulated over 400 senior appearances.

On returning to England with Chelsea, Bronze said: ‘To know I’m a Chelsea player still feels a little surreal. It’s a club I know so much about and have done for such a long time. I’m excited to be back in England. My family is excited to get to more of my games as well.

‘I’m excited to be in London, to see what the capital holds and to be at a club renowned for winning so many trophies.’

General manager Paul Green commented on the official announcement on Chelsea FC: ‘Lucy will bring leadership to the group. She is a serial winner and a versatile defender. She has lots of experience and a winning mentality, which we feel will fit well into the squad.’

Having won every domestic honour in England during her spells at Sunderland, Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester City, Bronze signed for Lyon in 2017. In each of her three seasons in France, she won the domestic title and UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Her main aim is to help Chelsea win the coveted Champions League while playing for a team from her home country.

Chelsea assistant manager Camille Abily was part of the coaching staff when Bronze played at Lyon.

She was offered a contract extension at Barcelona but was not guaranteed a starting role amid competition from Spain defender Ona Batlle. She is a world-class player and deserves to be treated that way, not a number 2. Her coming to Chelsea is so she has guaranteed gameplay, which is likely due to her abilities.
