WSL Deadline Day: where is Walsh going?

The opening weekend of the women's Super League is just one week away, and with that, the transfer window closes Friday 13th at 11 pm. Here is the latest information to come out of it on deadline day. All club updates and pushes are to get players under the wire from the north to the south.

The main story coming out at the end of the transfer market is the transfer of Keira Walsh, who is keen to come home to the WSL for personal reasons, new adventures, and a challenge. However, Barcelona does not want to sell her with only a year remaining on her contract, as she has declined to sign a new deal with them. With Walsh's skill, it is no surprise that top teams like Arsenal and Chelsea are circling the future of signing Walsh in hopes of beating Barcelona in the Champions League. If you can't beat them, buy them. This would likely be a world record fee, which Chelsea is not against doing for the right players. This would likely break the record held by Walsh for Barcoa to be open to selling. She will unlikely go anywhere today, though, with Barca playing Real Sociedad at 19:00 BST tonight. The window might have passed. She is making it more than likely that she will move when her contract ends.

Veerle Buurman, the Dutch defender, joined on a permanent deal and will spend 24/25 on loan at PSV.

Everton has offered former Liverpool goalkeeper Rylee Foster a short-term deal, but the contract has yet to be signed. There is no rush, though, as she is a free agent and can complete the paperwork after the deadline. Other teams are interested in a new goalkeeper, so there could be a last-minute swipe for them. She is likely to keep her options open for the best deal for her, but Everton is the front-runner.

Recently promoted Crystal Palace has been added to the squad, hoping to stay in the WSL. There are reports that they have contacted Wales defender Lily Woodham from Seattle Reign. Crystal Palace has announced that they have signed Manchester City's England under-19 striker Poppy Pritchard on loan for the season.

In the Midlands, Aston Villa is set to confirm a club-record signing of Brazil forward Gabi Nunes for more than £250,000. Nunes has arrived in Birmingham, showing a further sign of investment following the appointment of new manager Robert de Pauw. Nunes has 22 caps for Brazil and won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Tottenham want a midfielder after the success of Grace Clinton on loan last season. They are looking to bring someone permanently, not on a loan deal.

Brighton are also looking to remain active and are rumoured to be eyeing up Manchester United forward Nikita Parris. No agreements have been reached, nor have official bids been made yet.

Tottenham's position has not changed as they would still like a midfielder to replace the injured Kit Graham, but they are running out of time. Manchester United want a goalkeeper, too. They are interested in bringing on a loanee player this season from Arsenal, Michelle Agyemang

West Ham United signed a two-year deal with Finland international midfielder Oona Siren from LSK Kvinner. I found it ironic, given that Skinner's manager complained about short contracts impacting them with loads of their first-time players leaving this summer on free transfers. It's so weird that they signed someone with the same philosophy, losing a lot of first-team players over the summer as their contract ends, so it isn't evident for them to sign someone on a short deal.
