Chloe Kelly Joins Arsenal Permanently After Loan Spell: “First Time Was Nice… We Had To Do It Twice”

Chloe Kelly is here to stay, ‘first time was nice, we had to do it twice.’

Last night on Instagram, Kelly announced her departure for Manchester City.

She said: “I want to take this moment to acknowledge the good in my time at City. The unwavering support from the fans and the relationships formed with the girls and the wider support staff have helped shape me to become the person I am today. I’ll be forever grateful to those people.”

This comes after she forced a loan move in January after a souring relationship with then-head coach Gareth Taylor and a lack of minutes ahead of the women's Euros this summer.

She found her spark and love of football again and won a Champions League medal.

She has now made the official permanent move, which we all knew was coming after her Manchester City Contract expiration.

The London-born forward joined the Arsenal academy at the age of 12 in 2010 and left in 2018.

Kelly said of her move: "Putting pen to paper on a permanent contract at Arsenal is a standout moment for me.

“Learning from an incredible manager and building relationships with an excellent team is a journey I'm looking forward to continuing.

"I'm excited for more silverware at this special club and to bring more trophies back to North London to celebrate with our supporters.

“I've always said Arsenal supporters are the best, and to have them on my side, singing my name, means so much to me."

Kelly made the switch in January amid concerns that, due to the lack of club minutes, she would not be selected to go to Switzerland. Well, she was on that plane in hopes of helping England retain their title.

The forward leaves City after five years at the club, during which time she made 109 appearances, scored 30 goals, and won the 2020 FA Cup and 2022 League Cup.

Arsenal boss Slegers said: "I'm delighted that we've made Chloe a permanent signing for us.

"She greatly impacted us and played an important role in what we achieved here last season, and I know she shares our ambition to compete for more."

Kelly will continue to wear the number 18 shirt at Arsenal.

Clare Wheatley, Arsenal's director of women's football, said:

"We're thrilled to keep Chloe at Arsenal.

"Chloe's application, attitude and performances were outstanding throughout her loan spell last season, and we are delighted to continue working together as we gear up for an exciting 2025/26 campaign.

"I know our supporters have been waiting patiently for this one, and I'm sure they'll join me in welcoming Chloe home to north London."
