Leah Williamson Signs New Two-Year Deal with Arsenal Women

Miss Arsenal has signed a new contract with Arsenal Women, extending her stay for two years, after spending 20 years with the club since joining as a child.

Her previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season, keeping her at the club into the late 2020s.

There has been some anxiety among fans about Williamson's contract situation, but the club has always been confident that they would agree to a new deal. It would be unthinkable to see her on any team, especially given the fact that she recently got an Arsenal-themed tattoo.

After signing, Williamson said something along the lines of: “This club is steeped in history. Being part of it and being shaped by it brings me pride, as you’d never believe. I’ve been lucky to share the pitch with legends. We’ve stood side-by-side, home and away, to keep pushing for more because we don’t stop dreaming, and there are chapters still to write. Let’s write them together.”

The vice-captain has not had the best season she would have wanted. After a heroic and fantastic summer, becoming the most decorated England captain with back-to-back Euros in Switzerland. She has had mixed fitness and injury issues, which she had to have surgery for to clean up her ACL knee after the final.

She returned to first-team action in December 2025, coming on as a substitute in Arsenal’s WSL win over Everton. But then she reinjured herself again. Despite limited minutes, she scored for Arsenal, helping secure a 7-0 win over Leicester City just the day before her new contract was announced. This result helped boost their team's slim chance of taking the fight to Manchester City with only a few match weekends to go.

She also started in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Lyon when they won 2-1, showing the manager trusts her in big matches.

She is one of the longest-serving Arsenal players, joining the youth system at the age of nine and progressing through all levels of the academy before breaking into the senior squad.

She made her first-team debut in 2014 as a teenager, initially appearing in the UEFA Champions League and domestic cup competitions. Last year, she lifted the European trophy as a vice-captain to Kim Little in Lisbon.

In an interview on the club website, the England captain said, “I don’t feel like I’m done. I think it’s really special to be somewhere where you care so much about the people, the project, and the place. I don’t think it’s something to take for granted.

“After 20 years, I still feel wanted, and I want to be here, so I don’t understand why it would have been time to leave this time.”

By spring 2026, she had made 282+ appearances for Arsenal and scored 17 goals in all competitions. She has been a dominant centre-back known for ball-playing ability, tactical intelligence and leadership, serving as a key leader on and off the pitch.

Her vision, ability to build from the back, and ability to dictate the flow of the game make her one of the world's best centre-backs.

She has won it all in her career: the historic European title for the club, another international club honour with the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, the WSL, two FA Cups, and four League Cup victories. This reflects her long-term service to the club and the development of the women's game.

Her international legacy is beyond her titles; she has earned over 65 caps for England and remains a central figure in her century.

Williamson is the fourth player to commit her future to the club in recent weeks, with Kim Little, Stina Blackstenius, and Steph Catley all signing new deals.
