Beth Mead, rumoured to leave North London for London City Lionesses, has possibly proved her worth to her current club, as she is looking for more minutes.
Last season, she played 2551 minutes, while Alessia Russo played 3690 and Mariona Caldentey played 4005. In 21 appearances in the WSL, she only started seven games.
Since her ACL injury in 2022, her time on the pitch has been limited, with the manager more favourable towards new stars coming into the side.
However, in the match against London City Lionesses, she proved why she should be in the squad and picked up more.
She made WSL history after becoming the first-ever player to reach 50 assists in the competition.
Like last season, she came on as a substitute in the 76th minute in place of Chloe Kelly.
Mead scored quick-fire 83rd and 84th-minute goals to secure a 4-1 victory.
As Opta reported, she’s the first player to reach a half-century of assists in the competition.
Subs assisting subs, as Mead laid on two goals for fellow substitutes Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum in the game's closing stages.
The last time Arsenal won the WSL was in 2018/19, the last team to have one before Chelsea, six in a row.
