Chelsea is at the top of the table going into the international break. Manchester City is just one point behind them, and Manchester United is another point behind them.
Spurs stay in fourth, one point ahead of Arsenal in fifth, but the newcomers, London City Lionesses, are in sixth. They have three WSL wins in a row, the first time the relegated side has done that since Leicester City in the 2021/22 season.
Chelsea v Spurs 1-0
Chelsea won 1-0 against Spurs after back-to-back draws between the league and the Champions League for the first time since Sonia Bompastor. Both Niamh Charles and Lucy Bronze came back from injury to get minutes. Chelsea is struggling in the final action, mainly crosses and chances, but the final product and execution have been lacking in the last three matches, including this one. The goal came around the hour mark. Chelsea midfielder Kiera Walsh worked herself a yard of space and thumped a shot home from 20 yards. After a previous goal this season against Aston Villa, her first goal for Chelsea was credited to an own goal. Her first league came since Barcelona v and first in the WSL since 2021.
Chelsea scored in their last 36 WSL appearances and went 31 league games unbeaten—the joint second-most in the competition's history. Millie Bright made her 300th appearance for Chelsea, more than any other club in the modern era.
They are now just three games from beating the outright record 33 they set themselves between February 2019 and January 2021.
From the very start, it was one-way traffic. By the break, Chelsea had enjoyed 70 per cent possession, taken 13 corners, and attempted 15 shots, generating an Expected Goals figure of 1.06.
Spurs played very defensively, constantly putting their bodies on the line to prevent Chelsea from scoring many goals.
The Spurs are four points behind, but Chelsea has 16 points from six games.
They will fancy breaking their record of 33 games unbeaten with fixtures against London City Lionesses, Arsenal and Liverpool in November.
Spurs' performance in the first six games has been encouraging. They won four of them, losing only to City and Chelsea. Last season, the Spurs only managed five wins across their previous campaign.
Spurs spent most of the game in their own half and offered little in front of goal. They limited Chelsea to one goal.
Everton v Manchester United 4-1 to the visitors.
Manchester United came from behind to maintain their unbeaten run in the league as they pushed Chelsea to the top. However, this could change as United continues to play in Europe and other competitions without the squad depth, so wins at the beginning of the season will be crucial to make up for any later issues.
Everton’s Honoka Hayashi became the first woman to score at the Hill Dickinson stadium. The club has to play one WSL game at its main stadium in a season, which is why it is at the other stadium due to the men’s international break. More than 18,000 fans were in attendance.
Melvine Malard equalised at the second time of asking just after the hour as she became the highest WSL scorer.
Hikaru Kitagawa turned into her own net to complete the red comeback.
Jess Park completed the game, making it 4-1, combining with Ella Toone.
The victory sees United consolidate second place, two points behind leaders Chelsea after their 1-1 draw seven days earlier.
Aston Villa v Leicester City 0-0
The Midlands derby clash ended in a goalless draw for the second season in a row.
Villa had chances, mainly through Ebony Salmon, but failed to get the better of the Foxes’ goalkeeper on multiple occasions.
Rick Passmoor officially took charge as their permanent manager for the first time, but could not get the full three points.
London City Lionesses v West Ham 1-0
West Ham remains at the bottom of the table, conceding around 17 goals in the league from just six matches. They have now lost eight WSL games in succession.
With 20 minutes left of what had been a close match, West Ham goalkeeper Kinga Szemik delayed on the ball in the six-yard box as she looked to play out from the back, which allowed the alert Kosovare Asllani to dart in and take possession before tapping into an empty net. The goal came from a defensive disaster for the visitors, who lost a point.
The Lionesses have won three of their first six top-flight matches.
Arsenal v Brighton 1-0
Arsenal won through an own goal by Olislagers, though the game was an unconvincing victory, as they had multiple opportunities to score more goals.
The goal came in the 15th minute when Olivia Smith's low shot was deflected off the Brighton defender and past wrong-footed Chiamaka Nndozie.
This was Brighton's 11th defeat from 14 games away from home for the visitors.
Fran Kirby has recovered and could start for Brighton, as she had some of the best chances, as well as Cankovic, plus the Arsenal keeper had to make a double save from Kiko Seike
Arsenal were denied a second on 57 minutes when Maelys Mpome cleared off the line following a goalmouth scramble, but soon needed van Domselaar to rescue them again when she saved well from a Carla Camacho header.
Due to a significant injury, after a Caitlin Foord cross smashed into the side of Marlys Mpome's face. The game had an extra 13 minutes of stoppage time, as the player needed significant medical treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off. A significant number of medical staff attended the situation.
It has been confirmed she is “up and about” She was taken off the field with her head in a brace and receiving oxygen. She was later confirmed to have suffered a concussion.
Brighton also has injury concerns after their skipper Maisie Symonds, who needed treatment on her right leg.
Five goals conceded in six games, for Brighton facing big and strong sides like Arsenal, Manchester City plslu Spurs who have started well this season.
At the Emirates, the attendance was 27,336.
This was Arsenal's first win since the 12th September against West Ham.
Daphne van Domselar had to make five crucial saves, including one big one, to prevent Brighton from scoring.
While van Domselaar still looks vulnerable under crosses, she made excellent saves.
Her display encapsulated Arsenal in this game—imperfect but good enough to secure vital success and keep the Gunners among their rivals.
Arsenal had some chances, including late pressure, with Stina Blackstenius hitting the bar and a shot barrowly wide.
Liverpool v Manchester City 2-1 to the visitors.
While the city controlled the first half, both sides had chances.
Vivianne Miedema had a big chance from a pounce on a Jenna Clark mistake, but her low strike was blocked.
Other chances for the visitors came from Kerstin Casparij, who has started well this season, and Fujino. City capitalised on Liverpool's high defensive line as they found runners in the channels to get over the top of them.
Liverpool came into this game, which was likely their best WSL performance of the season. Mia Enderby at the restart sent a warning sign when her cross deflected onto the post.
A minute later, Kapocs evaded City's Dutch defender at the back post to head past Ayaka Yamashita in front of the Kop for her second league goal, the only Liverpool goalscorer this season. Liverpool showed signs of improvement, especially in the second half. Gareth Taylor lost to his previous side, City, and still uses the tactics from his blue days. He ended for the city in the second game.
Just as it looked like it would be a draw, Fujino smashed a low strike and City earned the win. Though Liverpool's Gemma Bonner thought she equalised in the last seconds of the game when the city keeper spilt Holland’s free-kick, she was offside.
