Are Spain Unstoppable at the Euros — or Is Their Greatest Weakness About to Be Exposed?

Is Spain invincible or beatable?

They are the highest-ranked country in the world at the Euros, closely followed by England.

Strengths

In one sign match, they had 33 shots, without the squad's top scorer, Jenni Hermoso. They have 2x Ballon d'Or winners, Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati.

Their squad depth up front is massive and some of the best. The complete Barca starting lineup is also the Spain starting XI.

Claudia Pina, Salma Paralluelo, and Mariona Caldentey are all Champions League winners.

They are the current holders of the World Cup and Nations League, but their FA and organisations have overshadowed their successes.

Weaknesses

They are weak defensively. In the last 17 games, Spain has only managed three clean sheets. Oppositions should capitalise on Spain's weak defence, as it could break them.

This crack is not just in direct play but also in set pieces.

Justine Vanhaevermaet's header and Hannah Eurlings' breakaway goal showed cracks in the Spanish full-backs' struggle in aerial duels in the Belgium game. Spain's play style leaves spaces behind for fast, physical teams to exploit.

Jess Park exploited that at Wembley when England won 1-0 by going behind the defensive line to the goal.

Spain has not advanced past the quarter-finals at the Euros and was beaten by England in this year's Nations League. Brazil and Germany also outclassed them in a shaky Olympic campaign. Spain can unravel against elite opposition that thrives on pressure and hits clinically.

So, is Spain unbeatable?

On current form: They look terrifying.

On paper: No. And that should excite every contender still in this tournament
