England Names Euro 2025 Squad Amid Key Withdrawals: Lauren James Included Despite Injury

So here's your England squad for the Euros.

With one month to go, the squad was announced, which was exactly what we expected. Twenty-two of the 23 players have previously played for England youth teams.

Lucy Bronze is set for her seventh major tournament and her fourth EURO.

Thirteen players return from the victorious EURO 2022 squad.

WithMary Earps's withdrawal, Fran Kirby and Millie Bright did not have to cut anyone; Sarina Wiegman also did her ACL.

After coming in at the last minute to the most recent international meeting with Millie Bright's withdrawal, Lotte Wubben-Moy is in the squad. She has benefited from Bright's decision not to stand for this squad as she's on the team.

The injury trio is back: Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Lauren Hemp are on the squad.

The big surprise, though we knew she had it in her to be back and fit for this, is Lauren James, managing a hamstring injury from the last international break against Belgium in April. Sarina must think she can be fit enough to play a role this summer.

"LAUREN JAMES IS SPECIAL.

FOR ME, IF SHE'S CLOSE ENOUGH TO BEING FIT, SHE MAKES IT. SHE ADDS ANOTHER LEVEL TO THIS ENGLAND TEAM, SHE'S LIKE A CHEAT CODE."- SAID KAREN BARDSLEY

"LJ CAN PRODUCE SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY THAT CAN SPIN A GAME ON IT'S HEAD. DO YOU TAKE THAT RISK AND ESSENTIALLY ONLY CARRY 22 PLAYERS INTO THE EUROS?"- SAID ELLEN WHITE

Aggie Beever-Jones is the second lioness to score a hat trick at Wembley after Beth Mead. She is going to her first major tournament after coming through the Chelsea academy and into the senior squad for the last two years.

Michelle Agyemang, Although she did not get any minutes in the UEFA Nations League matches this time, will be one to watch after making an instant impact after scoring from her second touch of the game after coming on over 41 seconds earlier.

Other major tournament debutants include Jess Park, who took one minute to make a name for herself on Instagram. She scored second into her debut in a 4-0 win over Japan in 2022, and she was the goal scorer for England when they beat Spain at Wembley.

Grace Clinton, the tree-hugger named PFA Women's Young Player of the Year in 2022 and scored on her England debut, has had the call-up.

Goalkeeper, it was a long shot. Ellie Roebuck would have made an appearance. Only time will tell if Khiara Keating or Anna Moorhouse can play in the friendly at King Power Stadium Leicester against Jamaica. Hence, they have some game time ahead of the EUROS if something goes wrong with Hannah Hampton.

My choice would be Moorhouse. She is in the season as she plays in the USA. She has played and won in finals with her club, Washington Spirit. She is older and, therefore, mature. While Keating has not had the best season, her attitude is questionable. Unfortunately, she lacks confidence in her performances and has let in some possibly saveable goals.

She, however, comes into her first international tournament as well as Moorhouse and ended the season as the youngest goalkeeper to win the WSL Golden Glove, keeping nine clean sheets in total. However, I think age and wisdom will play a factor in who's number two to Hampton, as Moorhouse set a new league record for clean sheets in the US in a single season of 13.

The final debutant is Maya Le Tissier, the girl from Guernsey and captain of Manchester United women. At the age of 22, she was the youngest player to reach 100 WSL appearances back in October and has played every minute for the club the past two seasons.

The squad's leaders will likely be in the defence, with captain Leah Williamson and two other England variants, Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood.

Chelsea has six players in the squad: Hannah Hampton, Lucy Bronze, Niamh Charles, Kiera Walsh, Aggie Beever-Jones, and Lauren James.

Arsenal has five, excluding Chloe Kelly, who will be a free agent at the end of this month.

Missy Bo Kearns was involved in the UEFA Nations League loss to Spain on Tuesday as she got her first gap for the senior squad. However, this is likely to come close to this tournament, with more experienced players being preferred for this euros. She is likely to have more senior call-ups this year.

Ultimately, the squad is not much of a surprise. Maybe the only minor but happy shock is Lauren James's participation in the tournament.

Four players are on a standby list: Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, Manchester City midfielder Laura Blindkilde Brown, Aston Villa midfielder Missy Bo Kearns and Villa defender Lucy Parker.

They will stay with the squad at St George's Park from Monday, 16 June to Monday, 30 June, when the rest of the squad travel to Switzerland.
